If you're going to use the background image method, it's better to create a small sample (even 1px X 1px will do). Then you can repeat it both x and y in CSS. This makes the code more scalable. It helped me diagnose a problem I've been having today. I've been using the CSS column method of setting the padding-bottom to a large positive number and the margin-bottom to the same number (except negative). Never had this problem before with anchors, but you're right, it kills the usability with the columns of this type and anchors. Thanks again.
