What a pitty! A user X1050 I've already been able to locate but no X1300 with AGP 2x at all (neither used nor new)!

Also my email I send to GCube - questioning what has been the latest Radeon with AGP 2x (3.3V) they've produced and whether it is still buyable or not - has not been answered yet.

Just stumbled upon the Radeon 9800 Pro and X1050 (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Radeon_R500_.28X1xxx.29_series). Are these supported by your drivers?

No, the lowest card that is supported is the Radeon X1300.

Sorry for the misunderstanding! I just ment any news regarding which cards you're driver will be supporting and maybe news from bplan to you meanwhile.

I'm just trying to get my hands on a X1300 AGP 3.3V but I could not find any so far. Not even used ones! I also read an article stating that the X1600 has also been manufactured as AGP version (not sure whether 3.3V or not)!

Interesting. If you can find an example of an AGP Radeon X1300 that supports AGP 2x speeds and is available, then let me know. The driver supports the X1300, so it should work.

Unfortunately I did not yet find more modern ones still supporting AGP 2x but on the above list AMD mentions:
"The HD Series products from the 2000 series and up are designed by our partners, please contact the board manufacture for details regarding AGP Compliance Details." So there might be a chance!
I haven't found a single HD series AGP card that supports the older 2x voltages, and don't expect it either. As far as manufacturers of newer cards are concerned AGP 2x is well and truly obsolete, and so isn't worth the extra effort.

Any news on this topic on your side, Hans?
The AGP support problem is a hardware issue, and the Pegasos II problem is a firmware issue. I cannot do anything about either of those.

I also contacted bplan on this and forwared their reply to Hans quite a while ago (January this year). Currently they are not planning to update the firmware since this would require testing all mainboard revisions against hundreds of different accessory parts (memory modules, GFX cards, etc.).

What I'd like to know is whether their will be other Radeon cards supported by this driver in future? According to this list (http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-18872ATIAGPGraphicsCards-AGPComplianceDetails.aspx) their are some of them using 3.3V AGP connectors, for example X1300. Unfortunately I did not yet find more modern ones still supporting AGP 2x but on the above list AMD mentions:

Hi Andi,

I also have a problem with a Radeon 9250 in a Sam 440-flex and update 3 and we have exchanged observations on the Hyperion message boards.
I don't have the card in the computer at the moment but it started to work ok last time i tried it.
The only thing that I did was to reconnect my case fan at the back of my computer which blows air across the cpu.
There are two theories about problems with the Sam machines and update 3.
One is overheating of the CPU and the other is the sam440ep_setup patch from Acube.

I have also been so far unable to get two PCI graphics cards to work at the same time in my Sam-flex.
Either the 9250 card is indeed defective or one of the SAM permanent update has resulted in this as the same card did work in the second PCI slot when I got it earlier this year but did not last time I tried it. will keep you updated once my replacements etc show up.

Unfortunately I have never used a Sam440ep, so I don't know anything about which graphics cards do and don't work with it.

While it is not possible to disable the on-board Radeon M9, I think that you can select the PCI Radeon card to be the primary graphics card in UBoot. The primary graphics card is basically the graphics card that the boot-screen shows up on. With the PCI card as the primary, and no PCIGraphics monitor in DEVS:Monitors, you effectively have a one graphics card system and 3D should work. This is all in theory, of course, as I have no idea what will actually happen.

Which graphics card does the boot screen currently show on? And what files do you have in DEVS:Monitors?

Hello Hans!

I have a SAM440ep Board with a Radeon 9200 PCI GFX card.
Since AmigaOS4.1 Update3 I can use only 8 Bit ScreenModes - anything else in any resolution freezes completely the system.
I tried a lot things I was told by the Hyperion message board forums but nothing solved the problem.

With Updade2 I had no problems - could go up to 1920x1080@32.

I baught a second RAdeon 9210 GFX card - same problem

Then there was an older issue with minigl: I can't get it to work neither with the Radeon 9200 nor the 9250.

After all I wrote a mail to Acube systems - rearding the Update3 problem.

They told me 2 things:
1. I shall try the graphics.library from update2 to look if this solvesthe sceenmodes problem.
2. 3D doesn't work with 2 Radeon Cards. It's a limitation of the current state of AmigaOS 4.x
And it is not possible to disable the M9 on-borad Radeon Card.

Okay I didn't know that
My on-borad M9 is broken that's why I baught the Radeon 9200.
It's really a pitty to live without 3D but acceptable.

Hans do you maybe know a GFX card that does work with 3D in the Sam440ep board?
ANd do you think trying the gfx library from update2 could at least solve the sreenmodes problem with 2D operations?

Thanx in advance for your time and work for AMIGA OS !!!!

AutoInstall is a script for AmiUpdate. The easiest thing to do is to run AmiUpdate. If AmiUpdate doesn't update MiniGL, it's because you already have the latest version.

To install it manually, copy the two .library files to LIBS:. You don't need the demos, unless you happen to be interested in them.

Sapphire HD4550 512MB DDR3 PCI-e, low profile, passive cooled on a Sam460ex.
Works like a charm using only 25 Watt.

SVGA output works, DVI and HDMI don't (I know, it's been said many times that it is yet to come the digital output...).

DVI output is not fully operational with Radeon HD 4000 series yet. However, this will be implemented later.

48xx series cards work?

In theory, yes. However, it has never been tested. Please do bear in mind that the high end cards take up two slots, and so are not suitable for the SAM 460ex if you wish to use the PCI slot.

The VRAM situation is a bit complicated. Of the 1 GiB of VRAM, 256 MiB is accessible to the CPU via the PCI bus. The rest of the VRAM is only accessible by the GPU. Since Picasso96 expects all VRAM to be CPU accessible, it will use only the CPU accessible 256 MiB.

But all is not lost. The Gallium 3D drivers will be able to use the full 1 GiB, or whatever your card's VRAM size is. I am also investigating how else I can make use of the extra VRAM.

Naturally, this problem will be completely solved when Picasso96's replacement arrives.

Its planned to buy a Sam460ex next year (2011).

I need a lot of Video-Ram for many screens in high resolution, if possible in 32Bit Color-depth and Composing enabled.

In theory, the current drivers should work with AmigaOS 4.1 on the classic. However, it is completely untested. The one thing that I am aware of that doesn't work on the classic is DMA, and so I'd have to make sure that GART and DMA are disabled.

We'll have to see if it will work.

I think a low-end X1300 should be the best choice or?

The biggest advantage is the usage of GfxRam as FastRam

If you want to use the PCI slot (and you probably do), then make sure that the card that you buy is only a single-slot thick. High-end cards such as the Radeon HD 4890 take up two slots (at least, I have yet to see a single-slot version), and some of the low end cards use a double height heat sync for fanless cooling. Using these cards would block the PCI slot, rendering that slot unusable.

I recommend getting a mid-range card for the SAM 460. A low-end card seems like a bit of a waste when you've got a brand new 1.2 GHz machine; low-end cards really are "low end." At the other end, the high end cards need two slots. A mid-range card strikes a good balance, at least, IMHO.

I expect that some will criticise ACube for this, but the fact is that the flex-ATX form-factor only provides room for up to three expansion slots. The Sam 460ex uses all three of those slots (one 4x PCI-E slot, a PCI slot and a 1x PCI-E slot).

I somehow missed this thread. Anyway, I don't have any recommendations for the A1-X1000 or Sam 460ex as I do not have either of these machines at present. In theory any card from the Radeon X1300 to the Radeon HD 4890 should work. Do not get a Radeon HD 5000 series card, as these are definitely not supported at present.

Have you updated UBoot to the latest version that ACube provided?

You could try setting it back to using the onboard graphics card as primary, and see if you can use the Radeon HD card once Amiga OS has started up.

I had both gfx cards to their own monitor. The monitor from the onboard gfx card didn't show anything.

I had set in the uboot to use pci card as primary gfx card.

I have no other machine to hook up to,so can't see output.

The flashing cursor tells me that UBoot has chosen the other graphics card to be the primary card. UBoot should be displaying on the onboard graphics card. Seeing as it's not, you have a UBoot configuration issue.

The driver switches off the screen when it initializes. It's then up to the OS to open a screen on the card. Did you check the output from the onboard graphics card when this happens?

What do you mean when you say "Also set the pci on uboot menu"?

You could try hooking up your SAM's serial port to another computer to see if UBoot spits out any information.

I've had a go at trying to get my radeonhd card working with my sam 440ep. But no luck. All i get is a little flashing cursor inside a little square on the top left side on the screen. Nothing from the onboard gfx card. And after some time the screen looses the signal. Did use the installer,but had to rename the monitor driver to only radeon,was radeon m9. Then the installer worked. Also set the pci on uboot menu. No idea if the radeon is working as it should,have no other machine to test it on.

The gfx card is a powercolor hd 2400 pro 256mb 64bit ddr2

This was with version 0.7

It is the same on my PowerColor HD2400 PRO.

It is difficult to insert the cable near the heatsink and the first time I unplug the SATA.

Next time I test this and post the result.

Unfortunately, the capacitor occupies the same space of the SATA plug.
We must tilt the SATA plug and cut a piece of heatsink.
I do not know how you can force without damaging the main board or the card.
So for now I give and forgive the 9200SE in the connector 66MHz.
I think that is why the ATI 2400HD PRO is not a good choice for the card Sam440ep-FLEX.

My HIS Radeon HD4350 fits fine in both the 1st and 3rd PCI slots without blocking anything and it has a large passive heatsink. The SATA cables must be plugged in first and run right up behind the step on the heatsink, just watch and be careful when installing it.

It appears that Radeon HD cards with passive cooling are a problem for the SAM flex. The large heat sink can block the SATA ports if it is plugged into the 66 MHz slot. The Radeon X1550 that I have has a fan, but both the 2400 and 4350 have large heat sinks.

To that end, does anyone have a Radeon HD 2400 or higher that has a compact fan instead of a 1.5 slot high heat sink? If so, please post the card's details here.

Any other possible solutions other than using the card in one of the 33 MHz slots?

That's strange. I've made one last change, so please try again. Otherwise, I've emailed you a direct link.

Here are a few things that you could try:
- Remove the AGP card, and test with just the Radeon HD 2400
- Disable USB, disable DMA for the IDE in UBoot (and maybe temporarily disable networking).

I suspect that the "DMA fix" causes nasty side-effects that prevents PCI graphics cards from working, and is the reason why uA1 machines can't handle secondary graphics cards. My last suggestion is basically what someone did (IIRC) in order to get a PCI graphics card working in a uA1.

Click on "forums" in the main navigation bar. You'll see the RadeonHD beta testers forum in the list if you're logged in.

Could you capture and email me a log from your board minus for just the graphics card initialization? Install the debug driver, then start up the machine with the graphics card inserted (+ your Radeon card), and do the following once workbench is loaded:
dumpdebugbuffer ram:log.txt clear

It should contain debug information from the driver initialization.

Go to the beta testers forum, and look for a thread with the title "Locking up..."

I'm not happy that the DMA-fix seems to interfere with the RadeonHD graphics cards. A lot of people have that fix.

Do you have a "fixed" A1? I ask because there is one other person whose machine also locks up, and his A1 has the DMA/USB fix. See the "locking up" thread in the private beta tester forum.

Do you have another machine that you can use to capture debug logs via the serial port? If so, please install the debug version of the driver, capture a log and email it to me.

Now my A1 is working again, donÂ´t know what it was.

Using 0.7 now.

Anyway, I have now fixed so I use two monitors. When I boot on the HD2400 it looks fine until the bootpicture appears, it fades in halfway(sometimes not even halfway) and then everything stops.

The Vendor ID is: 0x1002
The Device ID is: 0x94CC

I can see the card in P96mode(When booting with AGP) and can attach resolutions, but when I test a resolution everything freezes.

I used the installer and have all the files where they supposed to be, besides I have no monitorfile for the card in Devs:Monitors.

Do you have a monitor in devs:Monitors called PCIGraphics? Unless you told the installer not to make one, it should be there.

The card is a: Sapphire HD2400 PRO 512MB 64bit DDR2 PCI Dual DVI-I

I need the vendor and device IDs; the name doesn't help me. You can use Ranger to get those when you have your existing AGP graphics card inserted.

When I went into Uboot and wrote "pci", I got the device id. Then I wrote "pci long" to get some more info, but it was too much so I wrote "reset" to start over. Now nothing works. I donÂ´t even get Uboot to start i.e I donÂ´t see anything. I have taken out the battery and the pci graphic and still nothing. Feels like itÂ´s broke.
IÂ´ll let you know more as soon as I can get this thing going.

It's possible that you dislodged the memory and/or some other card(s) as you were inserting and removing cards. Check that everything is still plugged in properly, and reinsert the battery (if you haven't done so already). I hope that you get it working properly again.
